STEPPING STONES

We need to understand that addiction is a chronic relapsing brain disease. Addiction severely altars brain areas critical to decision making, learning, memory and behavior control which may explain the compulsive and destructive behaviors of addiction. Drug abuse starts early and peaks during the teen years. This increased risk is partly due to teens heightened sensitivity to social influences and their developing brain, particularly to the areas critical to judgement and impulse control.

Young people who begin drinking before the age of 15 are four times more likely to develop alcoholism than those who begin drinking at 21.

Our Mission:

The team will provide education, support, and prevention resources in an empathetic, responsible and confidential manner to those affected and afflicted by addictions in the congregation and community at large.

Our Goals:

1. To create an environment where addiction can be discussed openly and without judgement

2. To provide sound educational materials and events

3. To offer specific support, assistance and referral resources to individuals and families

4. To recognize and honor successful recovery
